Jonathan
Rashleigh Knight was born on
November 29, 1968 in Worcester,
MA to Marlene and Allen Knight.
He grew up in Dorchester, MA
along with his 5 brothers and
sisters. His mother also took in
numerous foster children. Even
as a child he preferred to be
called Jonathan not Jon.
He along with his brother Jordan
got their start singing in the
Episcopal church choir where his
father is a Priest.
Jonathan had a pretty normal
childhood; even though he had
some pretty serious dreams. He
told everyone that he was going
to be famous one day; he wasn't
sure how or why but he knew that
he would get there. He went to
school and when the time came he
got his
drivers
license. Shortly after he passed
the test to get his driver's
license he was in a serious car
accident and was quite badly
injured. He actually still gets
back pains as a result.
Jonathan admits that when he
found out about Jordan getting
into the New Kids on the Block,
he was a little more than
jealous. He said that he always
did everything with his little
brother and he was having a hard
time thinking his brother may be
doing something without him. But
he ended up getting himself a
spot in the group that was going
to take over the world.
In the late 1980's; Jonathan was
part of New Kids on the Block.
He, along with brother Jordan,
Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg
and Danny Wood went on to sell
millions of albums, perform all
over the world to sold out
crowds. Even touring with
Tiffany; a singer best known for
her version of "I Think We're
Alone Now". Jonathan actually
had a relationship with her, and
he has even said that even
though they were young he could
have married her. But hiding the
relationship and becoming so
busy he didn't have time to talk
to her much they both kind of
just grew apart.
When the New Kids started out
they would go to school during
the day and then rehearse in
either Maurice Starr's studio or
the Knights Basement probably
about 3 hrs a day.
Through out the 80's and 90's
the New Kids on the Block
released numerous albums; the
first of which was self titled
and didn't do very well. The
group kept working at it and
with the release of their song "Hangin'
Tough" they went to number
one in what seemed like
overnight.
It was in Spain that Jonathan
realized that he wasn't able to
go on performing with the New
Kids. The panic attacks were too
much for him to handle and he
just decided it was time for him
to throw in the towel. According
to him he did nothing from
1994-1997 except for sleep. He
got into the habit of if he had
to deal with something he just
went to bed or laid on the
couch. Because according to him
if you are sleeping you don't
have to deal with anything. This
went on for 3 years and he put
off going to the doctor because
he was afraid - but after
sleeping and not being able to
function properly for so long he
brought himself to the doctor's.
He found out that what he had
been going through for so long
had a name - and it was panic
attacks or anxiety.
Once
he left the New Kids; and was
able to overcome the most severe
attacks, he started his own real
estate company. He would buy
properties and renevate them,
then turn around and sell them.
According to Jonathan, he was
always interested in real
estate.
Jonathan is one of the most down
to earth people and it seems
like even though he has been out
of the spot light for so long he
still genuninely cares about his
fans. He even goes out of his
way to go outside if you pull
into his driveway wanting an
autograph or picture - he's easy
to comply and do whatever he can
for the time you went out of
your way.
Jonathan is the only one out of
the New Kids that has not gotten
married yet. He is still single.
Jonathan is now back with New
Kids On The Block, They have now
released new album called The
Block and tour starts in
september 2008. He is now
comfortable with the band again
and having overcome his panic
aniexty issues and ready to be
back on stage with his brothers.
